Cajun Signs: Alligator Heads

Stopped at a great seafood place on our way out of New Orleans and got some killer boiled shrimp (2 lbs, head on, and just the right amount of spice). Took this photo as we were waiting for the rain to let up.

Breaking Bracket

This weekend was the preliminary round of the state cup for the U-16 boys that I have been coaching this year. Prelims are in bracket play format and the only thing you focus on is advancing to the next round, which in our case meant punching a ticket to the state semifinals. This weekend we did that and did so in style, winning our first game 2-1 and then defeating the defending state champions 3-1. I'm super proud of my team. Last year they lost both games in the preliminary round. Making the semifinals with a statement like this is a big accomplishment. Now we'll take this momentum into the week ahead and get ready for the big game on Saturday.

Deepwater Horizon/Louisiana Coast Photos

The Big Picture has some incredible photos of the Deepwater Horizon disaster on the coast that are sure to make you frustrated and depressed. I don't think I can even comprehend the extent of this tragedy...and it has yet to stop.

Bed

Just got upgraded (and was able to get my wife an upgrade as well) on our flight from Newark to Houston and the seats recline to a bed/sleeping position at the touch of a button. I think this makes up for me not doing the laundry.

Coach

This weekend my team spent some time at the local food kitchen doing some volunteer work. In addition to meal prep, we helped pack up some supply rooms to help prepare for the move of the facility to a new location.

Player: Hey coach, we're packing the boxes with stuff and there are these pumpkins back there.
Coach: Ok.
Player: Well I picked one up and it was rotten. Underneath it was covered in larva. Should I put all that in the boxes?
Coach: No.
