We made it!

Just touched down in SA. Crazy long flight! Got to see Soccer City stadium as the plane came in for a landing. At touchdown everyone cheered for the SA team since the Mexico vs SA game had just started. Here's a photo of our flight crew decked out in SA uniforms after they got off the plane. Go Bafana Bafana!

Dakar, Senegal

We just landed in Dakar, Senegal on the western tip of Africa. 7 hours into our flight time. Unfortunately, we're not able to explore the airport. Our plane is full of World Cup fans, mostly US, one Mexican fan and one very proud Canadian fan waving one very small Canadian flag.

In-Flight Magazine

The in-flight magazine on our flight is about 300 pages. Kinda makes sense...the flight is about 17 hours long. Ouch.

Headed to the World Cup!

It's official, boarding passes in hand and now through security...we are on our way to South Africa! It's just starting to sink in...

Travel

Today was a long travel day. Woke up at 3:30 am and proceeded to get stuck in two airports. The good news is that in 2 and a half days, we start our trip to South Africa. Another long travel day awaits, but the World Cup is at the finish line so it is totally worth it.

In related news (as I test out a new pocket size digital camera), I carry too much junk when I travel. I weighed it this past winter and along with my coat, it was about 10 pounds.

Believe: The Miracle on Grass

The US plays England in 1 week and we will be there watching. Not many people think we have a chance. Not many people thought we had a chance back in 1950 either and we pulled the 1-0 upset back then - now referred to the Miracle on Grass.

Just got the t-shirt I ordered that I'll be wearing on the flight over to SA on our way to watch history repeat.
