I know there will be people who don't like this spot. And perhaps after all the hype continues to hit our airwaves I will side with them. However, right now, I like it.
Here is the thing about Beckham you have to love, even if you don't like his as a player:
People, press, opponents, etc. constantly slam this guy about his soccer ability, and he ALWAYS takes the high road. He doesn't get involved in the press sqabbles, supports his coach even when he himself is not supported, and carries himself in a way that many other professional athletes should take note of. And finally, every team he is on, his teamates love him!
I for one, am a fan of him as a player an as a person, and hope that his professionalism rubs off on some of the classless athletes we have here in the US.
He described this experience in his autobiography. As the poster, RC, duly noted, Beckham is a model professional. That often becomes lost in the hyperbole that surrounds him. He also appears to be a genuine man.
Remember how the Real Madrid players reacted after he scored on a free kick after his enforced exile by Fabio Capello? You would have thought they had won a Cup final. Even Capello admitted, "I didn't think he would train as hard... He is a true professional."
Journalists, along with others in North America, need to judge this man on his merits. Not the advertised mega contract, pop-star lifestyle, or his global media brand.
