Coach

We had a player on our JV score a hat trick the other day. I was warming up the Varsity.

Player 1: Hey Andrey has a hat trick!
Player 2: A Mexican hat trick.
Coach: What does the fact that he is Mexican have anything to do with it?
Player 2: Stop being so Northern.

Pretty funny exchange. And by the way, the player with the hat trick is from Cuba.

I find it amusing that in this country you are either a Damn Yankee Liberal, a Redneck Southerner w/ a Pickup Truck, A West Coast Softie, or a Midwest Farmer / Rancher / Cowboy....

Good for you for calling attention to it. Maybe it'll raise a bit of awareness, and next time he'll think about what he's saying.

In all fairness, I think the comment was good natured. The players usually engage in banter regarding their different heritage, etc. However, at the same time, I like to remind them that it could be considered offsides depending on the situation and the individuals involved... It was a funny exchange. I don't think they all knew I was from NJ, so the "northern" joke caught on quick. It will be interesting to see how long it sticks around!
