This could touch off a lively debate. Do you have to be drunk to get a hangover? I get a headache if I drink white wine, say 2 or 3 glasses. I am certainly not drunk, but since I have a headache am I hungover? I am not sure. I always assumed a hangover was preceded by getting drunk, but I guess it is not a pre-requisite...
Acutally I think a hangover comes from being dehydrated. So even if you're drunk, you can (mostly) prevent a hangover by drinking alot of water or gatorade before bed.
Wilablog, you know about my issue with red wine-- less than 1/2 glass can give me a headache.
A wine merchant in LFT told me to avoid red wines from California (or the US entirely, I think) because something in the agricultural process or curing process is different. (Adds more sulfites, I think?) Obviously, I'm shady on the scientific reasons behind this, I can't remember what the exact explanation was, only the advice.
Anyhow, I've tried this, and it's true, imported reds do not give me a headache. Tell your mom to try this approach, maybe she will have a similar experience.
Wikipedia actually has an entry dedicated solely to RWH , Red Wine Headache. Debunks the suflite theory, but suggests 3 or 4 others. Also notes that scientists don't really know, which is always encouraging.
A lively debate indeed. I guess I was thinking more along the lines of "next day" headaches, which I think, regardless of how much you had to drink, could be considered hangovers. Not sure. Anyway, I looked up hangovers on wikipedia and I am screwed. One symptom is hair loss.

Pele's correct.
Agreed, so then technically, having a headache from a glass of wine is not a "hangover". It is just a headache...
