For those of you wondering if Ruud van Nistelrooy's opening goal in the Netherlands' 3-0 win over Italy was actually
legal, UEFA has weighed in on the proceedings. I already knew it was completely legitimate because we had the luxury of having
a national candidate referee over at our house watching the game. He made the correct call as well. Nice job by the ref crew in this game.

I'm not sure how I feel about the rule. I understand it was the correct call, so I'm not arguing that. But the guy was down injured. How is this in the spirit of the law/game?
I think becuase:
1. In the past, players faked injury to circumvent the previous rule
2. Most importantly, the player down was an Italian, so there is a 99.99% chance they were faking it. And even if they weren't, the Italian can only blame themselves for that stereotype
rc's reason #1 is the case. A player only has to fall to the ground claiming a sprained ankle, roll out of bounds, and a legitimate player is offsides. I think this rule was changed as a result of Italians doing just that...just kidding.
The rule is completely legit. We refs lost the ability to read players minds years ago.
I can read minds.
You must be the chosen one!
