Contrast

In 2005 Time picked Bill Gates for Person of the year. In a complete 360 for 2006, they have chosen...you. Also in the running was Kim Jong-il and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. In light of the other options, I think I am ok with this unconventional decision...

"'For seizing the reins of the global media, for founding and framing the new digital democracy, for working for nothing and beating the pros at their own game, Time's Person of the Year for 2006 is you,' the magazine's Lev Grossman wrote."

I have to admit - my very first thought was... "lame"

I don't like it when they get fancy about the person of the year.

I have some of those same feelings. I do think the observation that the common individual has an increased effect on world events is one that is particularly relevant these days. However, like I said, I also have a similar reaction to yours. The first thought I had was "cop out." Finally, I decided, I'm glad they didn't pick Kim Jong-il.

It is kind of a weird practice. I went and found the history. See newest post.

FINALLY! You have no idea how many times I have seen that award go to other underserving people. I have been saying for years that I should be Person of the Year....and now it finally happens. This puppy is getting framed, right next to my Sportsman of the Year award...
