So US Soccer made the formal announcement today, Bob Bradley is the new MNT coach. It is in an interim capacity. I could find no mention on the US Soccer website for how long "interim" means. Here is the part of the press release that I found really interesting:
"U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati has named Bob Bradley as Interim Head Coach of the U.S. Men’s National Team and Head Coach of the U.S. Under-23 Men’s National Team."
So he is coaching 2 teams? Maybe I don't understand the structure and make up of the Olympic program vs. the official MNT program. Is it normal to have one coach do both jobs? At first, I thought this was a really stupid move. Then I wondered if it provides an umbrella under which he can manage all potential talent. In the end, my gut reaction is that it doesn't seem to make sense to me. How can he coach both teams?

Must be becuase he will eventually take over the U-23 program for good (that is assuming US Soccer does not hire him to the full MNT position later next year). With that said, the U-23's have 21 and 22 year olds on the team. In 2009, the height of qualifying for South Africa, these guys will be 24 and 25, and approaching thier prime (hopefully). So maybe that is where some of our focus should be, and try to develope some of the younger talent along with some of the proven guys (which I am not sure we have any legit "proven" guys anymore...). Who knows, all I know is that they have until 2008 when qualifying starts to figure it out, and if they don't get thier act together by then...GO CANADA!!!!
This is a good theory. What is interesting about it is how he will have to split his time between two jobs. So not only is the MNT suffering from our inability to make a decision, but now the U-23 team is going to suffer as well. Break out the Molson.
